Bigger and Better Business serves as an umbrella for other national initiatives involving business. The program’s goals include supporting minority businesses, increasing communication with Sigma brothers involved with business, and instilling sound business principles and practices to members of the community.
The Black Spend Initiative is the foremost Bigger and Better Bigger and Better Business initiative that speaks to our collective efforts to become Change Agents as it relates to intentional spending. The Black Spend Initiative was birthed, and introduced by our Inaugural President Bro. Mike Harvey. Over $20 million has been documented as spent with Black Owned Businesses throughout the International landscape from 2020 - 2023.
We highlight our member’s businesses and business partnerships and celebrate their services. We encourage you to support these businesses through your patronage and referrals throughout your network. If you are interested in working with the Education Committee please email BBB@StCharlesSigmas.org for more information or if you are interested in a business partnership.
The Education program focuses on providing a variety of services to alumni and collegiate members of the Fraternity, which in turn translates to services to local communities. In-house programs include providing scholarships, conferences, college fairs, mentoring, and tutoring at local, regional and national levels. The Adopt-A-School component is designed to get Sigma men into the schools in our community, working with teachers and principals to assist students in improving their knowledge, skills, and academic proficiency and build student literacy. While in the schools, we will implement one or more of the sub-components of this initiative which include:
Reading Days – Essay Contests
Spelling bees
Oratory and Debate Competition
Math and Problem-Solving Competitions
S.T.E.A.M related experiences, field trips, and projects
The scholarship component is designed to have Sigma grow its impact by assisting with the cost of education at both the high school and college levels through the awarding of scholarships. We are tasked with raising money in various ways, per the chapter’s decision, to award these scholarships. The local scholarships will go to high school and/or college students using criteria set by the chapter, If you are interested in working with the Education Committee or learning more please email Education@StCharlesSigmas.org
